Recycling Depot Service Updates – revised 23 March

Wet wipes clog pipes. Please put them in the garbage, not the toilet. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the City is experiencing high volumes of wet wipes in waste waster treatment, requiring systems to be flushed. City of Powell River press release here.

To promote social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, changes to recycling depot service will come into effect on Friday, March 20th, 2020.

Town Centre Recycling Depot:
New Hours: Monday-Saturday 8:00am – 4:00pm
Only one person (per side) allowed in depot at a time.
One staff member only. Staff will monitor from outside depot.
Augusta Recyclers:
Effective immediately, Augusta Recyclers recycling depot has closed. Other operations and services by Augusta Recyclers are not currently affected. For up-to-date messaging, refer to Augusta Recycler’s website.

All Other Rural Recycling Depots:

(Black Point, Van Anda, Gilles Bay, Tla’amin, Lund)
Hours: No change.
Only one person allowed in depot at a time.
One staff member only. Staff will monitor from outside depot.

To avoid lines at depots, city residents should access the free curbside recycling pick-up service for all container and paper/cardboard recycling. Refer to the Waste Wise Guide 2020 for details, and information about other recyclables.
