Rental of Haywire Bay Regional Park May 1-3, 2021
The Board approved renting the entirety of Haywire Bay Regional Park and Campground to the Department of National Defence (DND) for use by five units of the Royal Canadian Army Cadets and staff on May 1-3, 2021. The Board approved the rental on the conditions that current physical distancing recommendations or directives by the Provincial Health Officer have been relaxed by that time and that no other provincial Orders are in place.

 

Subdivision Application, Kennedy Road, Electoral Area C
The Board supported the proposed two lot conventional subdivision application for the property at 10868 Kennedy Road. This is subject to proof of on-site water and sewer servicing as well as the applicant is to obtain a development permit from the qathet Regional District prior to final subdivision.   

Continued Tetra Tech Contract Work
The Board has continued to engage the Tetra Tech engineering team in contract work for the Marine Avenue Landfill Closure, Resource Recovery Centre and Lasqueti Landfill. The Board approved single sourcing Tetra Tech based on “qathet Regional District Delegation of Purchasing Authorization Bylaw No. 454”.

 

Northside Volunteer Fire Department WorkSafe BC Inspection
The Board received the Northside Volunteer Fire Department (NVFD) WorkSafe BC Inspection Report and sent a letter of appreciation to the Chief and staff of the NVFD.

 

Texada Seniors’ Council Rent Reduction
The Board directed staff to amend the lease agreement with the Texada Seniors’ Council, Powell River Public Library and Sandpiper Preschool to reduce their annual rent to $1 per year with no annual increase.

 

Expanding 2020 Property Tax Deferral Options
The Board received correspondence from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing regarding Expanding 2020 Property Tax Deferral Options. The Board is set to continue their efforts to convince the Ministry to act on the letter the qRD Board sent to the Honorable Selena Robinson titled “Expansion of the Provincial Tax Deferment Program”.

 

Community Hall Fee Waiver for Artists Tour
The Board authorized staff to waive the rental fee for the Texada Community Hall for the Artists’ Tour, August 7-9, 2020; on the conditions that current social/physical distancing recommendations or directives by the Provincial Health Officer have been relaxed by that time and that no other provincial Orders are in place.

 

Code of Conduct Policy

The Board adopted Policy 1.15: Code of Conduct.

 

Canadian Mental Health Week (CMHW) – May 4-10, 2020

The Board proclaimed Mental Health Week from May 4 – 10, 2020.

 

Local Government Awareness Week – May 17-23, 2020

The Board proclaimed Local Government Awareness Week from May 17 – 23, 2020.

 

Resolution of Censure

The Board has resolved that the Board disapproves of the conduct of Director Gisborne towards the Delegate and his comments at the Board meeting on December 12, 2019. Director Gisborne was directed to treat all individuals who appear before the Board in a respectful and professional manner and was directed to ensure that any comments he makes at Board meetings are respectful and professional.

 

Lund Sewer Outfall Repairs

The Board has named Fraser Burrard Diving Ltd. the successful proponent for the required renewal and repairs to the Lund Sewer Outfall.

 

qRD and Powell River Regional Hospital District Audited Financial Statements 2019

The Board has approved the qathet Regional District and the Powell River Regional Hospital District Audited Financial Statements for the year ending December 31, 2019.
