June 25, 2020 Regional Board Meeting Highlights

Texada Metal Transfer Station

The Board received nine pieces of correspondence with regards to the Texada Metal Transfer Station.

 

Crown Land Tenure for Community Institutional Dock, Finn Bay, Electoral Area A
The Board directed staff to advise the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development that the qRD supports the application for Crown Land Tenure for Community Institutional Dock located at District Lot 7843, Finn Bay, Electoral Area A.

 

Application Updates for June 9, 2020

The Board received the applications update report dated June 9, 2020 for information.

 

Tribal Journeys 2021 Stakeholders Committee

The Board appointed the Chair of the Board Patrick Brabazon to the Tribal Journeys 2021 Stakeholders’ Committee.

 

March 2020 Quarterly Strategic Plan Progress Report

The Board received the March 2020 Quarterly Strategic Plan Progress Report.

 

Social Procurement Pilot

The Board authorized staff to include social value language in future RFx to pilot its use and directed staff to measure the effectiveness and impacts of these pilot procurement practices and report back to the Board in 2021.

 

Savary Island Barge Ramp Lease Renewal

The Board directed staff to obtain a 30-year renewal of the Licence of Occupation with the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development for the Savary Island Barge Site

 

Outdoor Learning Centre – New Amenities

The Board directed staff to provide a letter of support to School District 47 Powell River Outdoor Learning Centre regarding the Waterfront Enhancement Project as outlined in their letter dated April 30, 2020. The Board invited the Outdoor Learning Centre to appear as a delegation to the Board prior to development regarding the Waterfront Enhancement Project. The Board also approved the construction of a gazebo and amphitheatre at the Outdoor Learning Centre, as outlined in School District 47 Powell River Outdoor Learning Centre’s letter dated May 1, 2020.

 

Municipal Regional District Tax + Online Accommodation Platform

The Board will provide a letter of support re the 2% MRDT renewal application. The Board will also send a letter of support to the Online Accommodation Platform guidelines.

 

Interim Financial Statements to May 31, 2020

The Board received the qathet Regional District interim financial statements to May 31, 2020.

 

Texada Metal Transfer Station Fencing

The Board resolved to not add to the existing fencing at the Texada Metal Transfer Station

 

Tourism Powell River Service Agreement

The Board to enter into a four-year service agreement with Tourism Powell River to provide funds towards the annual operational funding for the Powell River Visitor Center beginning in 2020.
