August 27, 2020 Regional Board Meeting Highlights

BC Recreation and Parks Association
The Board received correspondence from the President of BC Recreation and Parks Association and resolved to write a letter of support to substantiate the important role they play within our sector and how the Association directly affects our community and the work we do.

 

Tourism Powell River
The Board will contribute from the 2020 budget to assist Tourism Powell River with funding student summer jobs.

 

Water bottling
The Board received correspondence re Request for Prohibition of Water Bottling and directed staff to bring back a report regarding water bottling.

 

Application Updates for August 11, 2020
The Board received the applications update report dated August 11, 2020 for information.

 

Subdivision Application, 2832 D’Angio Road
The Board to advise Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure they have no objection to the proposed subdivision at 2832 D’Angio Road subject to proof of on-site water and sewer servicing on each of the proposed lots from Vancouver Coastal Health.

 

Applications for Community, Culture and Recreation Grant/Lund Community Center Upgrade
The Board directed staff to submit an application for grant funding for the Lund Community Centre Upgrade Project through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.
The Board to support its share of the project costs and directed staff to proceed with the upgrade if grant funding is successful and to seek elector assent using the Alternate Approval Process.

 

Quarterly Strategic Plan Progress Report
The Board received the June 2020 Report.

 

FireSmart Requests
The Board received the report titled FireSmart Requests dated August 5, 2020 for information.

 

Lasqueti Island Fire Dispatch Down Streamed to NI 911
The Board placed the dispatch correspondence in abeyance.

 

Organics Processing Facility
The Board directed staff to issue a Request for Proposals for a local organics processing facility.

 

Texada/Gillies Bay Airport
The Board directed staff to provide a letter of approval to allow Wells Gray Air to provide air taxi/charter service out of Texada/Gillies Bay Airport and directed staff to apply to recertify the Airport as a Transport Canada Certified Aerodome.

 

Marine Avenue Resource Recovery Centre Purchasing Authority
The Board delegated staff the ability to single source parts, equipment, labour, services and/or expertise (components) for the 2020-2022 Marine Avenue Resource Recovery Centre up to a maximum value per component.

 

Extension Extraordinary Emergency Powers of Delegation
The Board delegated the operational and administrative decisions to the Chief Administrative Officer until November 30, 2020 unless extended, for matters that are urgent and require immediate attention.
