Recycling Depot Safety: Additional Considerations

BEFORE YOU GO TO A qRD WASTE OR RECYCLING FACILITY:

  • Do NOT visit a facility if you are feeling unwell, experiencing flu-like symptoms or have potentially been exposed to the coronavirus.
  • Consider if your trip is absolutely essential, or if it can wait.
  • If you have access to curbside collection, please use that service and do not go to recycling depots or waste facilities unless absolutely necessary.
  • Pre-sort your recycling to limit time spend on site.
  • Customers must observe social distancing while on site.

Please be patient as these measures are put in place to keep all residents, staff and contractors safe.

Recycle BC: No tissues, Disinfecting Wipes, Face Masks, Rubber Gloves, etc.

Recycle BC, the non-profit that manages curbside recycling, and the packaging and printed paper streams at recycling depots is asking for the following safety measures:

  • Ensure medical waste and products like used tissues, disinfecting wipes, face masks and rubber gloves are NOT included in your recycling bins or dropped off at recycling depots.
  • Use local garbage collection provider for proper disposal methods of the above items (bagged, not loose).
  • Stay current with Recycle BC COVID-19 updates here.
Thrift Stores Closed – No Store Donations

MCC Thrift Store, the Salvation Army Thrift Store, and the Hospital Auxiliary (Economy Shop) have all closed and are not accepting donations.  Please store donations at home for the time being.
