Self-Haul Organics Pilot Program Ends August 31, 2025

Starting September 1st, 2025, the Self-Haul Organics Program will transition out of the pilot phase and the following changes will take effect:
Food Waste under 10kg will continue to be accepted for FREE at two Recycling Depot locations:
  • Food Waste (under 10kg) can be brought to the Resource Recovery Centre Recycling Depot (4924 Marine Ave) Monday to Saturday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • Food Waste (under 10kg) can be brought to the Tla’amin Recycling Depot (near the Salish Centre) Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm

Food Waste (over 10kg), Yard Waste*, and Commingled Food & Yard Waste* will be accepted at the Resource Recovery Centre Transfer Station, subject to applicable fees:

Material Fee per Tonne Minimum Fee (0kg – 50kg)
Food Waste $200 $5.00
Yard Waste $225 $5.75
Commingled Food & Yard Waste $250 $6.25

*Invasive plants and branches over 2 inches in diameter cannot be included in Yard Waste or Commingled Food & Yard Waste. The 2 cubic yard limit for Yard Waste will no longer apply.

 


Self-Haul Organics Pilot Program

Food Waste and Yard Waste can be dropped off for FREE at four locations until August 31, 2025.

  • Food Waste (under 10kg) can be brought to the Resource Recovery Centre Recycling Depot (4924 Marine Ave) Monday to Saturday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • Food Waste (over 10kg) can be brought to the Resource Recovery Centre Transfer Station (4924 Marine Ave) Monday to Saturday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
  • Food Waste (under 10kg) can be brought to the Tla’amin Recycling Depot (near the Salish Centre) Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00am to 5:00pm
  • Yard Waste* (up to 2 cubic yards) can be brought to the Resource Recovery Centre Transfer Station (4924 Marine Ave) Monday to Saturday, 8:00am to 5:00pm

*Invasive plants and branches over 2 inches diameter cannot be included in yard waste.

 


Organics in the City of Powell River

The City of Powell River provides weekly curbside garbage, organics, and recycling collection. Schedules are available on the City’s website or pick up a hard copy at City Hall.
