EVACUATION ALERT ISSUED FOR TOBA RIVER DUE TO WILDFIRE
Community Wood Smoke Reduction Program

The Community Wood Smoke Reduction Program provides rebates to eligible residents who remove a non-EPA certified wood-burning appliance used for home heating and replace it with a cleaner heating option.

The program is funded through the BC Lung Association and the qathet Regional District to reduce particulate matter in the atmosphere and improve air quality.

Homeowners can apply through Efficiency BC to access additional rebates outside this program. For those exchanging their wood stove for an air sourced heat pump, some models are eligible through BC Hydro, City of Powell River and Better Homes BC for additional savings. Local retailers may also offer additional in-house incentives. Residents applying for a heat pump rebate have the option to keep their wood stove if it meets current EPA/CSA certifications.
