Powell River Airport (“YPW”) – Runway Rehabilitation Project (“Project”)

In accordance with the 2020-2045 Airport Master Plan, the City of Powell River is proceeding with the YPW runway, pavement and electrical rehabilitation. This grant-funded project is anticipated to proceed quickly this year and will require a full closure of the runway. This letter is to advise their partners and community to be prepared to make alternate travel arrangements for a limited period of time.

Following the closure of a bid process yesterday, March 5, 2024 the process for reviewing bids is now underway. Subject to the award of the contract, a full closure of the airport runway is required for an uninterrupted period limited to a maximum of 8 weeks between April – mid-June, 2024. Once Council have awarded the contract to the successful bidder, the City will be in a position to provide more details and certainty regarding the exact dates for the full closure period. Helicopter services will continue to operate throughout the Project. Floatplane service out of the Powell Lake water drome will also continue uninterrupted.
